It’s 24 hours since my SkinPen micro needling treatment and the redness has largely settled. My neck and décolletage are still a little red and itchy.

I have some small petechiae or blood spots on my face which will take another day to clear but overall I’m happy and comfortable.

What I love about the SkinPen is that you are using your body‘s own repair processes to help build new blood vessels and trigger new collagen and elastin formation by the fibroblast skin cells.

The device makes 1600 microchannels in the skin per second, and a single face treatment can reach about 3 million microchannels. These are deliberate microscopic injuries to the skin and we then await the repair processes.

We vary the needle depth from 0.25 to 2.5 millimetres depending on which area we’re working on and what we’re trying to achieve.

I go light in delicate areas like around the eyes, and deeper in areas where there are scars like acne or chicken pox or surgical scars. The treatment is pain free as we use strong numbing cream.

I’ll do a course of treatments, about 4-6 weeks apart over the coming months.
