Some Villains and Heroes in Aesthetic Medicine – Dr Eithne Brenner

Let’s rank some villains and heroes in aesthetic medicine.

First on the villains list are over done lip fillers; these really stand out for all the wrong reasons and look awful. They’re often done with cheap products and by non-medical practitioners with minimal training.

Good products cost a lot of money and training should run into the tens of thousands of hours to become an expert. You only get one face and body so be as careful as you can if you are seeking an aesthetic medicine treatment.

Next on my list is upper eyelid plasma pen. This has a high risk of infection and over or under pigmentation and it can’t achieve what surgical blepharoplasty can.

Next is bad practice such as sharing a syringe with a friend- it’s a major red flag 🚩 and has a high risk of infection.

Onto the heroes- look at a mix of effective skincare, daily SPF combined with subtle treatments- such as SkinPen microneedling, Sciton BBL/Moxi laser, etc helping you look fresh and protect your skin without looking done. Safety is so important!
