Anti-Wrinkle Injections
What areas can be treated?
One area that can be treated is between the eyebrows at the bridge of the nose, this is where the ‘eleven’s’ or frown lines can appear. The second area is around the corner of the eyes, known as crow’s feet, these lines appear when we smile, but can also be present at rest. The third area is the horizontal lines which appear on your forehead, which are most visible when you raise your eyebrows in surprise. Eyebrow arches can also be shaped and defined using the injections.
Anti wrinkle medication may also be used for migraine treatment, neck rejuvenation, masseter muscles (help with teeth grinding and helps slim the jawline) and the correction of a gummy smile.
How does it work?
When injected into the small muscles on the face it blocks the chemical messages between the nerve endings and the muscle fibres, this causes the muscles to relax and cause less creasing and wrinkling of the skin for up to four months. After this time, the Vistabel® wears off and the muscle activity returns. Results are not permanent and if you stop using the treatment it never gets any worse but regular treatments ( 3-4 times per year) are recommended. A subtle or more dramatic result is based on wishes and suitability of the patient.
What is involved in the treatment?
We schedule a face to face consultation to assess suitability. If you are suitable for treatment and decide to go ahead, your doctor will discuss what type of result you should achieve. Most people opt for a subtle, natural result, especially if they are new to this treatment, but some people like a stronger effect with minimal movement, and this will be discussed in detail with you prior to treatment. We offer a review at 2-3 weeks after treatment if a slight adjustment is required, this is free of charge.
Photos will be taken to assess your face at rest, and frowning, smiling, and raising your eyebrows with our leading technology. These form part of your medical records and are stored securely and privately. A consent sheet is then signed, and the treatment itself takes just a few minutes.
The treatment uses a very delicate, thin needle to administer a series of tiny injections, which causes minimal discomfort for a few seconds. It starts working 1-3 days after treatment, but it can take up to 14 days to see the full result.
How long will the results last?
Results generally last from 3 to 4 months, however this can differ between individuals, and may be shorter or longer than this. Every patient is different; skin condition, age and lifestyle are all factors. If you have repeat treatments, the results from each subsequent treatment may last slightly longer as your muscles become used to remaining in a more relaxed state. If you stop having anti-wrinkle injections, lines and wrinkles will return as they had previously, they will not appear worse.
