Intimacy is something to be cherished and talked about. When you feel good about your intimacy, you feel good about yourself. Changes in your body, especially in intimate areas like the vagina and vulva can still feel like a taboo subject to some people, even though it forms a very important part of our quality of life. Changes in the vulva (women’s external genital area) commonly happen over time, especially in perimenopause and menopause. These changes occur due to reducing oestrogen over time and can cause issues with both the function of the vulva, like discomfort, loss of volume, loss of suppleness and dryness with discomfort during sex.as well as its changing appearance.

Our bodies (and vulvas) come in an array of shapes and sizes, with a broad range of normal, healthy appearances and healthy function. We don’t want to suggest that our genitals should conform to a very particular appearance, but if changes over time are causing you symptoms that bother you, then it is something you could consider discussing with Dr Brenner. Over time, your labia majora can lose volume and suppleness. Dissatisfaction with their appearance may have an impact on your self-esteem, and symptoms such as dryness, discomfort, reduced lubrication, deflation or ageing of the inner and outer labia (lips) and can have a negative impact on your quality of life and sex life.

Time, hormonal changes linked to the menopause, weight variations and pregnancy may all lead to a loss of shape in the labia majora. The labia majora can lose volume or become thinner (fat atrophy), affecting the appearance of the genital area.

Why results can you expect?

The main aim of treating the labia majora with a suitable hyaluronic acid dermal filler injectable is to increase the volume of this area to achieve a fuller, plumper appearance, and improve the function of the area.

What to expect in your appointment

Dr Brenner offers a full consultation and advice surrounding the treatment. She has a background of over 25 years as a GP and now works exclusively in Aesthetic Medicine. She is highly experienced in addressing these concerns.

The consultation is private and confidential and there is no pressure to proceed with treatment. If you are suitable for treatment, it consists of a tiny injection of local anaesthetic medicine, one per side in the labia majora, and then a thin tool called a cannula is used to gently place the product under the skin, fanning out to subtly add back volume and hydration to the area.

Dr Brenner uses Juvéderm, a soft, long-lasting hyaluronic acid gel, which also contains numbing medicine. Results can last up to two years or more and can be topped up as needed. There is a chance of bruising, and temporary swelling or discomfort lasting a few days. Most women need 2 mls of product, although some may need more. The product will draw in water from the surrounding tissues, adding to the plump effect of the treatment over time.

The consultation fee is €100, which is redeemable against treatment with Dr Brenner within three months of the initial consultation.
